Week 8: Concrete Progress

Since the last post a fair amount has happened. The excavation is pretty much wrapped up at this point. We have a huge pile of dirt of which some will be carted away. The rest will be used to fill back in around the foundation walls once they are up. The concrete has been poured for the foundation footers on the main house and you can see the rebar for the foundation walls going up below.

You can see the excavation for the footers of the deck here.

Here you can see the main house again, and at this angle you can see some of the footers down at the bottom.

Finall,y we have the excavation for the guest house as well. The footers will be poured in the beginning of next week and then the rebar will be springing up here as well.

Week 5: Hole in the Ground

The grading is moving along and it's getting easier to have an idea of what it will all look like when it's done. The two levels you can see below are the yard/driveway (the top level) and where the foundation slab will rest. It has still been raining a fair amount, which makes the excavation process take longer that we would like. (And as I write this, it's snowing outside, after a week in the 60s.)

Looking the other direction (toward our entrance).

Here's Melanie/Gail posing for a sense of scale.

After a few more days of excavation, work on the foundation can begin. The rebar has already been delivered, and you can see that stacks of it below.
